Improvement requires feedback

Systems need feedback to improve performance.  Effective feedback loops are needed in the Food Safety system to guide improvements to reduce the incidence of foodborne illnessess.

Compared to other systems, such as aviation safety, the Food Safety system has an underdeveloped feedback system.  Aviation has the NTSB chartered by the US Congress to investigate and report on aviation accidents and to provide the FAA with safety improvement feedback.  The Food System in the US has no such group providing a central facility to investigate food incidents and to share conclusions so others can avoid food safety accidents.

Since we don't have a Food Safety Board,  I plan to use this blog and accompanying website to start a repository for food safety incidents leading to a regular analysis of the incidents with lessons learned.  If you are interested in joining me, let me know.
